If French philosopher Michel Foucault would have been alive today, how would he perceive the internet, social media and all other related digital technologies? According to Professor Jan Blommaert from Tilburg University "For him the internet would have been an absolute marvel." A lot of the things that Foucault wrote, might have even become more relevant since the emergence of the internet. Look at the panopticon, for instance. Thanks to things like Big Data surveillance and the power that is exercised by/through social media we might be able to argue that we are all living in a digital panopticon today.
