The troll is a person "whose real intention(s) is/are to cause disruption and/or to trigger or exacerbate conflict for the purposes of their own amusement" (Phillips, 2016). Phillips adds that "...trolling is a spectrum of behaviors. Some trolling is incredibly aggressive and meets the legal threshold for harassment. Other forms of trolling—for example, Rickrolling—are comparatively innocuous. Some trolling is persistent, continuing for weeks or even months, and some is ephemeral, occurring once and then never again." (Phillips 2016)
